Nearly $17M in Louisiana Tax Refunds Could Become Unclaimed This Fall — Here’s How to Claim Yours

Heads up, Louisiana taxpayers: Nearly $16.9 million in state tax refunds is still unclaimed — and you only have until September 6, 2025 to get your money before it’s transferred to the state’s Unclaimed Property program.

Why This Matters

The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) recently mailed Unclaimed Property notices to 17,976 individuals and businesses who are owed refunds.

If action isn’t taken by the deadline, those funds will be moved to the Louisiana State Treasurer’s Office, where they’ll sit until officially reclaimed.

Good news: the money doesn’t disappear. But claiming it later through the Unclaimed Property Division can be a slower process.

If you could use a little extra help, see what benefits you can claim here.

What You Need to Do

If you received a notice from LDR dated July 28, 2025, here’s how to secure your refund:

  1. File your claim online: Go to the Louisiana Department of Revenue website and follow the instructions.

  2. Use the included voucher: Fill it out and return it to the address provided.

  3. Act before September 6, 2025: That’s the legal deadline to claim directly through LDR.

Once approved, the state will send your refund via paper check.

Not Sure If You’re Owed Money?

You might be! To find out:

  1. Check your mail for an official notice

  2. Visit the LDR website to search and submit a claim
