Thousands of residents in Orange County, Florida could be owed money, but the clock is ticking.

The Clerk of Courts has announced a deadline of September 1, 2025 to claim uncashed checks before these funds are forfeited.

 

What’s Happening?

The Orange County Clerk of Courts reports that over 7,500 unclaimed checks are awaiting claim.

These checks range from a few cents to $8,450, including:

  • Vendor payments

  • Refunds

  • Restitution

  • Cash bonds

 

Why Haven’t These Checks Been Cashed?

In many cases, checks were mailed but never cashed because:

  • People moved and did not leave a forwarding address

  • Recipients simply forgot about the payment

  • Addresses on file are outdated

What Happens If You Don’t Claim Your Money?

According to Florida Statutes Section 116.21, any unclaimed funds after September 1 will be forfeited and moved into the Clerk’s Fine and Forfeiture Fund.
